I had a delightful experience at the charming Oggy Oggy Pasty shop tucked away in the Guildhall shopping centre. Not only was it conveniently located near the central train station, it had the advantage of both indoor and outdoor seating areas. There are about 7 undercover tables outside, providing the option to enjoy a pleasant weather day when a bit warmer with a savoury pasty or cup of tea.
The shop had a tempting selection of pasties that I found quite pleasing, along with a choice of reasonably priced cakes and coffee. Moreover, they offered jacket potatoes and an array of cooked breakfast items, thereby catering to diverse food preferences. The option of eat in or take away makes for this to be a perfect spot to pop in and enjoy a hot pasty whilst seeing the town, or stay a bit longer and rest your legs before continuing on.
Service was notably friendly and quick, a feature that stood out during my visit. The delightful sound of the waitress happily whistling while clearing the tables definitely added a special touch to the overall warm ambiance of the place. It's worth mentioning the obvious camaraderie that existed, witnessed in how regular patrons were greeted by their names and seemed to know most of the servers.
What impressed me, in particular, was an employee who was patiently training a new staff member in the most friendly and respectful manner. This only reinforced my perception of the shop as not just a food joint but a place with a considerate, cheerful workforce that extends its warmth and friendliness to customers.
While everything else about the place was commendable, there was a minor drawback. The toilets situated upstairs were in dire need of a touch up as could the rest of the interior - but this didn't take away from the overall experience massively. Apart from that, the shop certainly scores high in terms of food, location, and customer service.
The presence of many solo diners also hints at a safe and welcoming environment that this pasty shop promotes. Based on my overall positive experience, I can certainly recommend this place for a hearty eat in or take away meal and a nice time!
